The first copy of Microsoft Windows XP has been submitted in Azerbaijan on June 8, 2007, during a press conference that presented the Azerbaijani version of MS Windows XP.

The localization of MS Windows XP into Azerbaijani was carried out within the frame of the contract between the Microsoft Corporation and its official partner in Azerbaijan with the status of Gold Certified Partner - AZEL Company (strategic partner of Microsoft since 1997).

The event was attended by the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Mr. Ali Abbasov, the head of the Information Resources and Technology Department at the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and moderator of project localization Elmir Velizadeh; the head of Microsoft representative office in Azerbaijan Vladimir Chaikovsky and President of Azerbaijan Electronics (AZEL) Igor Yakovenko.

The translation into Azerbaijani language of Windows XP took more than a year.

The great work have been made and translated 375,000 words, (which was about 44,000 words, phrases and sentences).

The final Azerbaijani version of Windows XP was prepared in late 2006 and successfully tested.

AZEL’s work was highly appreciated by Mr. Abbasov and Mr. Velizade.

They have pointed out the importance of adapting the system into the Azerbaijani language.

Translation of Windows into the Azerbaijani language will increase the scope of the Azerbaijani language.

In particular, it will be possible not only to receive and transmit the information in the native language via e-mail, but also create new telecommunications, e-commerce and banking.

Furthermore, the establishment of the scope of the Azeri language in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office will give a new force for the development of the national language.

It should be noted that the first CD with the Azerbaijani version of Microsoft Windows XP was presented to the President of Azerbaijan Mr.Ilham Aliyev by the First Vice President of Microsoft Craig Mandi, who has visited Azerbaijan especially for this purpose.

In the future it is planned to translate other Microsoft products into Azerbaijani as well.

Nowadays, the Microsoft software translated into 40 languages.
